CASA TERESA - HOME FOR SINGLE MOTHERS

Program Overview

Founded in 1976, Casa Teresa provides a transformational, comprehensive program for homeless, pregnant women age 18 and older who are alone. Located in Orange, California, Casa Teresa is home to more than 60 mothers and their babies each year.  Additionally, referrals or one-time counseling is provided to over four hundred women annually.

Casa Teresa offers three separate residential programs: The Parenting Program, the Adoption Program ³Hannah¹s House², and the Transition Program for Single Mothers.  Casa Teresa is open to all homeless, pregnant women in need regardless of religion, nationality, race, background, or any other factor.

Casa Teresa offers a safe and sober living environment, perinatal healthcare, individual and group counseling, case management and life-skills education.  Our residents receive the tools needed to earn a living wage and become self-sufficient.  Residents are provided with computer training, job skill assessments and career development classes.  Equally important to their success, they find a healthy sense of self-worth and dignity.  This goal-oriented program allows women to break free from a generational cycle of homelessness, addiction, abuse and poverty.

Program Description

Casa Teresa provides an array of services, counseling and educational programs that prepare these women to make loving and informed life decisions for themselves and their babies.

Casa Teresa provides low cost housing within the budget of each woman¹s income from either a job or government assistance.  Residents are required to enroll in school or find employment.  No woman is turned away for lack of funds and residents who have no income and are ineligible for government assistance are provided a home and services by Casa Teresa through grant funding and private donations.

Last year, Casa Teresa was home to 74 women, and celebrated the birth of 75 healthy babies!  15 of these babies were placed with adoptive parents.  More than 2,200 pregnant women have made their home with us during the past 30 years.

A Mission of Love

Casa Teresa provides a temporary home and on-going support for pregnant women 18 years of age and older who are alone.  Counseling and educational programs prepare these women to make loving and informed decisions for themselves and their babies.

Our mission is to assist pregnant women 18 years and older to achieve self-sufficiency and independence.

MOMS’ NIGHT OUT

“So then, encourage one another and build each other up, as you are doing.”
         1 Thessalonians 5:11

Moms’ Night Out is an evening of fun for the young mothers at Casa Teresa, some are expectant mothers, and others are new mothers who have their babies enrolled in the Orange Presbyterian Infant Care Center.  It is an evening of delicious food, games (Bunko) and an opportunity to gather with other single mother’s as they are embraced by the members of the First Presbyterian Church of Orange and others in the community.

These ladies are working hard to establish themselves in a career that will allow them to take care of their child. The volunteers understand that once in a while, moms need a night out.  It is a night to “love one another”, to have lots of fun, and we believe a time to witness as we share a meal, give these mothers encouragement and let them know we care.  If you are looking for an enjoyable evening out, come and join us. Child care is available for those who want it at the Orange Presbyterian Infant Care Center.

Mom’s Night out is scheduled for Wednesday evenings on the following dates:

February 2, 2009 (The Soroptimist Club will provide the meal).

May 13, 2009

August 26, 2008

October 10, 2008
